Hitting the Links for the Crusader Golf Classic

SUNFIELD, Mich. - On Saturday, the Great Lakes Christian College athletics department hosted the Crusader Golf Classic at Centennial Acres. The event was had a considerable turnout, with 22 teams of four participating. Jim Barrett, Mark Borden, Bob Launs and Brian VanAman combined for the top score in the event (18 under par).

Athletics Director Richard Westerlund's team, which included Brady Schroeder, Shane Holloway and Trent Kline, came in second (-17) while Matt and Gloria Wesaw and Ed and Pam Harden finished third (-16).

Great Lakes student-athletes assisted at the event. After the golfing concluded, Westerlund and GLCC President Larry Carter addressed the teams in the clubhouse and distributed prizes to the winning teams.

"The Crusader Golf Classic was a very rewarding day for our department," said Westerlund after the event. "It was a tremendous day of golf. We were able to raise a significant amount of money for our athletic department which will only enhance our student-athlete experience. I am very grateful for our sponsors and supporters who were so generous. Phil Beavers did a tremendous job organizing this event. I am excited to continue to see this event grow in the future."

The Great Lakes Christian College athletics season will begin on Saturday, August 31 at 4:00 p.m. when men's soccer plays host to Boyce College at Henderson Field in their season opener.
