Men's Basketball Wins Ugly on the Road

Men's Basketball Wins Ugly on the Road

LOUISVILLE, Kent- The Great Lakes Christian College Men's Basketball team was on the road for the first time in 2019 to take on Boyce College. The Crusaders met Boyce at a neutral site earlier in the season, and the Crusaders would ultimately win in a shootout 98-87. This game would be much different. The Crusaders struggled to hit shots all night, and would need to rely on their defense to get the win against the Bulldogs. In the first half the Bulldogs would out scrap the Crusaders on the boards nabbing 8 second chance points in the first half. Kais McCook and Jahmal Eggleston provided a tremendous spark off the bench to get the Crusaders the push they needed to go into the half with a narrow five point lead.

In the second half the Crusaders would jump out to build lead to 8 and 9 points multiple times but the Bulldogs would continue to fight back. GLCC used their size and athleticism to their advantage to shut down the Bulldogs on offense, and enforce their will inside. The Crusaders held the home team to only 19 percent shooting in the second half and 29 percent for the game. Basit Seidu led the Crusaders with 16 points 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. Isiah Reed chipped in 14 points 6 rebounds and 2 assists. The Crusaders would push their lead out to win comfortably 75-59.

What Coach Says:

"This was an ugly win for us. We will take it, but I am disappointed in our mental focus today. Obviously we will take any road win we can, but we have to play to our standard for 40 minutes and we did not do that. Coach McCarty does a great job getting his guys to play hard, they have given us fits both times this season and I tip my hat off to them. We will have some things to clean up offensively and defensively as we continue on this semester." On Kais McCook, "Chef was tremendous tonight. The ball finds energy and he brought enough for the whole team. He was all over the place. He is going to have a big impact on our team, and tonight was just a small example of his impact." On Basit Seidu, "B is someone we have been pushing all year. He is an absolute force inside. I loved his defensive presence today, when B plays the way he played today we are just a different level team."
