Men's Basketball Cruise to Tenth Victory

LANSING, Mich- The Great Lakes Christian College Men's Basketball program played it's second game in as many days on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders took on the Southern State Patriots. The Crusaders came out of the gate slow only up 5-4 on the Patriots when Coach Richard Westerlund platooned the whole starting five out. The second unit of Jahmal Eggleston, Kais McCook, Amir Huston Jr., DonTre' Garrett and Michael Hill provided the spark for the Crusaders and answered with an 11-0 run. GLCC used their pressure defense and high octane transition offense to wear the Patriots down in the first half. The Crusaders would go into the first half up 56-32. 

In the second half the Crusaders started slow again as the Patriots started the half on a 9-4 run. The Patriots were able to cut the Crusader lead to as small as 16 before GLCC inserted their win upon the Patriots once again closing the game on 52-27 run over the Patriots. Jahmal Eggleston led the way for the Crusaders with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals. Quincy Green and JaQuin Jones each chipped in 17 points apiece. The Crusaders would win by a final of 111-70. The Crusaders move to 10-7 on the year. Ten wins is 5th time in program history the program has reached double digit wins.

  • Crusaders forced Patriots into 38 turnovers for 30 steals
  • GLCC had 6 players in double figures
  • Crusaders got back on track from 3 sinking 14/38 threes
  • Crusaders bench scored 61 points 

 

What Coach Says:

"This was a good game for confidence. I really liked seeing so many guys get quality minutes and opportunities. Obviously happy to see us get to double digit wins, but we need to continue to change our best as we continue to progress. We have a big time challenge on Tuesday against #10 Maranatha and that is all our focus right now."

Men's Basketball will take on #10 Maranatha Baptist University on Tuesday January 8th. Tip off is scheduled 4:00pm.
