LANSING, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College debuted a junior varsity men's basketball team for the first time on Thursday night, but a subpar shooting performance resulted in a 79-63 loss to Grace Christian's JV team.
A 27-4 run in the first half opened up a Tigers lead that would never be relinquished. The home team trailed 39-26 at halftime, and fell behind even further after a 19-8 Grace run in the second half.
GLCC chipped away at the lead down the stretch, but it was too late, as Grace won 79-63.
Great Lakes took 80 shots, only making 24 of them (30%), including shooting only 3/24 (12.5%) from beyond the arc. Grace shot 13/28 (46.4%) from downtown.
Both Marcus Riley and Damari Reid both picked up double-doubles, with 14 points and 11 rebounds and 13 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Dahvie Montgomery also scored 13. The rest of the team combined for 23 points on 9/46 shooting: an abysmal 19.5% from the floor.
Four Tigers scored in double digits, led by Gerard Oray's 19 points. Deandre McDonald scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
