Women's Basketball Puts Up a Strong Effort Against the Bulldogs

Adrian, Mich. - The Great Lakes Christian College Women's Basketball Crusaders finished their grueling week today playing their fourth game in six days. The Crusaders would fall to the Adrian College Bulldogs, but played their best game of the season thus far. They Lady Crusaders won two quarters over Adrian, but the Bulldogs fast start led to their win. The Bulldogs were up 26-12 after one quarter of play, but the Crusaders continued to compete like they always do. GLCC was led by a strong effort Oghenehoke Johnson scoring 12 of her career high 26 points in the first fast. The Crusaders went into the break down 39-26.

In the second half the Bulldogs jumped out quick again on the Crusaders with a 28 point quarter. Johnson continued to pace the the Crusader attack with 9 more points in the 3rd frame. In the fourth quarter the Crusaders continued to battle with the Bulldogs and won the quarter 21-14. Kerlanda Dervil scored 9 of her career high 18 in the fourth quarter, while Mystic Striker chipped in 5 of her 15 in the last frame. The Crusaders would ultimately lose 81-63 but continue to show improvement with each game.

 

Inside the Box Score:

  • Oke Johnson 26 points and 8 rebounds led the Crusaders to a season high 63 points scored.
  • Valerie Kopper had a career high 9 assists and 9 rebounds to go along with her 4 steals and 2 points.
  • Mystic Striker posted her first career double double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
  • The Bulldogs out rebounded the Crusaders 53-41 on the game.

 

What Coach Says:

"We definitely excelled this game by showing more patience on offense. The ladies persevered and maintained their intensity throughout the game, but especially in the second half. Oke was amazing, she was on fire all game. Mystic, Kerlanda, and Val were all tremendous tonight as well. I am extremely proud of our ladies."

 

What's Next:

The Crusaders are back in action Tuesday against Olivet College. Tip off is scheduled at OC at 7:00pm.
