Women's Basketball Loses First Game of Forbes Cancer Classic

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Great Lakes Christian College women's basketball (0-4, 0-0) played their first game of the Carol Forbes Cancer Classic on Friday, losing 110-50 to host NAIA II Grace University (4-4, 0-0).

Great Lakes hung with their hosts early; the game was tied at eight early in the first and GLCC trailed 23-18 at the break, but Grace's depth and sheer volume of chances helped them pull away in the second to take a 51-24 lead to halftime.

The Lancers continued to pile on the points in the third quarter, scoring 33 in the frame as they built an insurmountable margin, coasting down the stretch to a 110-50 win.

  • Oghenehoke Johnson led Great Lakes with a double-double: 20 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Four Lancers scored in double-digits: Brooke Sugg, Olivia Pearson, Kaylie Warble and Lauren Godfrey.
  • GLCC out-rebounded Grace in three quarters, finishing the game with 42 boards (Grace had 45).
  • The visitors turned the ball over 37 times, Grace 13.

What Coach Says:

Head coach Lynell McCrary: "We out-rebounded the opponent for three quarters. We played as a team. Oke earned a double-double with 13 rebounds and scored 20 points. Kerlanda followed with 15."
