Women's Basketball Defeated on Road at Finlandia

HANCOCK, Mich. - It was cold outside and Great Lakes women's basketball (0-14) was cold from outside in a 75-44 loss to Finlandia (1-14) in the Upper Peninsula on Thursday.

As has been the case often this season, Great Lakes held serve with their opponents in the first quarter, trailing 19-16 after one period. The visitors kept it close through the second as well, going on a 6-2 run late in the half to trim the deficit to single digits, 39-30.

The second half, though, saw Great Lakes shoot 6-of-25 (24%) from the floor and score a total of 14 points in the last two quarters. A 13-2 run by the Lions out of halftime stretched the lead to 20 and the hosts continued to grow their lead in the fourth, picking up a 75-44 win.

  • Kerlunda Dervil scored 11 points to lead Great Lakes.
  • Mystic Striker picked up another double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Great Lakes shot 17/56 (30.4%) from the field and 1/7 (14.3%) from three.
  • Mariah Austin led all scorers, putting up 25 points for Finlandia.
