Women's Basketball Releases 2019-2020 Schedule

The Great Lakes Christian College Women's Basketball program announced it's schedule for the 2019-2020 campaign Tuesday morning. The Lady Crusaders are coming off of a rebuilding season in Coach Lynell McCrary's first season at the helm. There is optimism within the program with the core of their starting lineup returning including Mystic Striker who was named to the 2nd Team All Region for NCCAA Mideast Region and Kerlanda Dervil who was third on the team in scoring as a freshman averaging 12 points a contest. The Crusaders will be led by their lone senior Valerie Kopper who brings steady presence on the floor and strong leader in the locker room.

The Crusaders open their 19-20 campaign on the road at Trinity International University October 25th, but will quickly return home to host Asbury University the next day at 1:00pm. GLCC Women's team travel is more regional in the first semester staying in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois for games. The Crusaders will host seven of their seventeen first semester games at the Doty Center, including a stretch of five of six home from November 8-26th.

After the semester break the Crusaders will travel to the upper peninsula to take on Northland College and Finlandia University for a weekend trip just after the new year. GLCC will open up NCCAA play against Grace Christian University in the middle of January as the Tigers and Crusaders will battle it out at Little Caesars Arena just like the Men's Basketball team. The date is still to be determined until the NBA releases it's schedule for the 2019-2020 season. Crusaders will be at the Doty five times in the second semester.

Questions with Coach

How do you feel about your schedule for this upcoming season?

"I am very excited for this season. We have a great group of young ladies coming to play for Great Lakes Christian College. Our schedule is a very achievable schedule and I feel we will surprise a lot of teams from last year. We have some really good returners back and have an amazing recruiting class coming in."

What are your expectations for this coming season with your program?

"Our expectations for this season is to compete and contend in our regional tournament. We want to qualify for nationals, and secure our program's first birth to the national tournament. I have very high expectations for our team this season."

What do you feel you learned from your first year of coaching in college, and what are you more excited about for this coming season?

We plan to come out very aggressive in the classroom and on the court. There are some definite changes that we will be making on the court related to the pressure we put on our opponents. Our lack of depth last season did not allow us the ability to pressure our opponents, and I think that will be the big difference this next season. We are excited about the changes in our program and the aggressive nature that we will attack with."
