Women's Basketball Comes Up Just Short Against LCC

LANSING, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College women's basketball led late in the fourth quarter against visiting Lansing Community College, but couldn't wrap up their first win of the season, losing 71-63.

LCC grabbed the lead early in the first, but Great Lakes kept it close, never letting the Stars build a lead larger than nine and closing the first half on a 7-0 run to cut LCC's lead to 40-38.

The run continued in the third quarter, with Valerie Kopper burying a three to put Great Lakes ahead. The two teams traded the lead back and forth and went to the fourth tied at 53.

The teams continued to go back and forth in the final period and the game was tied at 61 with 3:06 remaining. An Abigail Koneval basket put LCC ahead 64-63 with 1:49 left, and the Stars closed the game out on a 10-0 run to outlast GLCC, 71-63.

Tori Blackman led LCC with 27 points and 16 rebounds off the bench. Jada Moorehead scored 24.

Three Great Lakes players scored in double-digits, led by Mystics Striker's 19. Kerlanda Dervil scored 18 and Randi Fitzgerald swiped nine steals to go with her 17 points.

GLCC shot 27/64 (42.2%) from the field. LCC shot 27/53 (50.9%) overall and 5/12 (41.7%) from three.
