Women's Basketball Comeback Falls Short At Andrews

BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College women's basketball lost another close one on Thursday, 60-53 to Andrews University. GLCC is still without its first win.

Great Lakes found themselves playing from behind from early on, trailing the Cardinals 21-11 at the end of the first quarter. The visitors clawed their way back into the game in the second, drawing within four points before falling back into a double-digit deficit by halftime, 39-29.

Great Lakes was unable to get within striking distance of Andrews through the third and most of the fourth, trailing by 12 at one point. Finally, late in the fourth, they went on an 11-2 run, trimming the deficit to one with 2:40 to play. A Randi Fitzgerald basket brought the two teams level at 62 with 1:58 left. Andrews responded with back-to-back threes, burying GLCC under a deficit they couldn't recover from, and the Cardinals escaped with a 70-63 win.

Mystic Striker went off, scoring 29 points and picking up nine rebounds for Great Lakes. Tilly Guild scored 16 and grabbed nine boards as well. Four Cardinals scored in double-digits, led by Sarah Page's 16.

Great Lakes shot 2/2 (9.1%) from beyond the arc and 7/16 (43.8%) from the free-throw line. Andrews made five of their 19 three-point attempts (26.3%) and 11 of 19 free throws (57.9%).

Up Next: Great Lakes will host Ohio Christian on Tuesday at 6:00 before taking a two-week break over the holidays.
