Disc Golf debuts at Great Lakes Collegiate Open

WAYLAND, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College disc golf competed in its first-ever event on Saturday at the Great Lakes Collegiate Open, hosted by Big Rapids Disc Golf Club.

In singles play, Michael Wetzel was the top finisher for Great Lakes, finishing 38th in the 47-player field with a score of 71 (17 over par). Macaiah Allen finished just behind him in 39th at 73 (+19), followed by Colton Harris (45th, 80, +26) and Noah Rohrer (46th, 82, +28).

In the team doubles competition, Great Lakes finished 11th of 12, scoring 61 in round one and 75 in round two for a total score of 136 (+28). Ferris State, with a score of 107 (-1) came in first. They, along with Ohio State, Toledo and Michigan, who all tied for second (110, +2), qualify for the College Disc Golf DI National Tournament later this season.

Head coach Sam Long was happy with how his players competed, dispite not qualifying for the national tournament. "It was fun to throw against teams from the University of Michigan, Ohio State, Ferris State, University of Toledo, Central Michigan, and Bowling Green State University."

The team will have another chance to qualify on October 9 at the Rocket Launch Open in Dexter, Michigan.
