Men's Basketball Serving in the Community

Men's Basketball Serving in the Community

The Great Lakes Christian College Men's Basketball team began a year long community service project in Elmwood Elementary and Willow Ridge Elementary, and it is already paying dividends. The Crusaders have been serving in Elmwood Elementary and Willow Ridge Elementary Schools daily since the beginning of September. The Crusaders have been assisting and serving the teachers in the schools with reading, tutoring, and the occasional recess. The Men's Basketball team has already impacted in the brief time they have been in the schools.

Coach Westerlund said this about his team, "I am very happy with my guys serving and giving back. Those are two pillars for our program to serve and give. We have 20 guys excited to give back and make an impact. I am incredibly thankful that Elmwood and Willow Ridge teachers and administrators allowing us this opportunity to give back. As much as they have enjoyed having us it has been tremendous growing experience for our guys. I am proud of my guys using their platform to influence and lead."

Jacklyn Paris, first grade teacher at Elmwood Elementary School, said this about the Crusader Reading Program, "They interact with the students in a way that makes them not want to stop reading. This opportunity to have college athletes in the classroom has been amazing for my students and we thank you."

Junior Guard, Quincy Green said this about serving, "I really enjoy working with the kids in my class. They get excited to see me whenever I walk in and they always want me to stay longer. I am glad I can set a positive example and be a good influence to them." Senior Guard Lance Adams added, "I love the bond that the kids and I have created. There's a a lot of excitement in the classroom when I come there. I am appreciative to to experience what it is like to impact kids lives."
