Ice Cold Shooting Plagues Crusaders

LANSING, Mich- Men's Basketball was back in the Doty Center for the first time in 2020 against Holy Family College from Wisconsin. GLCC came out the gate very slow as HFC jumped out to a 12-0 lead. The Crusaders never recovered. GLCC was able to cut the into that deficit to as low as five in the first half but chippy play led to a technical that broke the Crusaders momentum. GLCC turned it over 9 times in the first half as the Lakers from HFC went into the break 41-30.

In the second half the Crusaders got down as much as 25 before Coach Rich Westerlund made a lineup change, with Kevin Wright and Jahmal Eggleston they provided the spark the Crusaders needed. The Crusaders made a comeback to cut the lead to 9 with 4:32 to go but the Lakers had an answer for the Crusaders pressure. In the second half GLCC pressure much better to force 12 of HFC 21 turnovers. GLCC also got on the offensive glass grabbing 16 offensive boards in the second half. Despite the efforts Crusaders shot just 34 percent from the floor, 18 percent from three and mere 52 percent from the FT line. Jalen Huff made his debut on the season scoring 13 points 6 rebounds and 3 steals in his first action of the season.

What Coach Says:

"Ultimately we did not come ready to play. We didn't share the ball very well. We didn't defend the basketball very well. Obviously from the numbers we didn't shoot it well, and although we did not shoot it well I think our defense is more of the issue. We have got to do a better job defending and honoring the scout." On Kevin Wright, "Kevin has really played well these last few games. I have really been please with what I have seen so far from him. I am excited to see him build off of this." On Jalen Huff, "It was great to see him play tonight. He has worked hard to get here. You could tell there was some nervous energy there, but I think he is only going to get better. He brings another dynamic to this team."
