Reed and Jones named first-team all region, three gain honorable mentions

LANSING, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College announced Monday that five players had garnered all-region honors for men's basketball in the Mid-East region of Division II of the NCCAA. Junior Isiah Reed and Senior Ja'Quin Jones were named first-team all-region while Trent Temple, Elijah Kess and Dontre' Garrett were given honorable mentions.

Reed has been named to his second straight all-region team. He led Great Lakes in scoring and assists with 14.8 points and 4.0 assists per game, averaging a team-high 33.9 minutes per game. He is joined on the first team by senior captain Jones, who led the team in shooting (52.7% from the field) and averaged 13.6 points per game.

"I am very proud of these guys," said head coach Richard Westerlund. "Isiah Reed and Ja'Quin Jones have been high-level players all year and I'm proud of them that they got the recognition that they deserved."

Temple, a junior in his first year with the team, started 29 games and scored 13.3 points per game. Kess, a senior outside shooter who was also in his first season at Great Lakes, averaged 13.3 points per game and reached 1,000 career points this season. Garrett, a senior, offered important minutes in 30 games for Great Lakes, averaging 4.7 points and 3.2 rebounds.

"I am also happy for Trent, Kess and Tre," Westerlund said. "We have five guys averaging 13 (or more) points per game. We're the only team in the country with that kind of depth. I'm happy these guys got the individual recognition they deserved."

Great Lakes finished second in the Mid-East regional tournament this past weekend and will compete in the NCCAA II national championship tournament in Joplin, Mo. from March 12-14.
