Senior Spotlight: Dontre' Garrett, Men's Basketball

LANSING, Mich. - Good basketball teams do not live by star power alone, and Great Lakes Christian College men's basketball's Dontre' Garrett is a prime example of how role players contribute to their teams in meaningful ways.

Garrett played in 60 games for Great Lakes in his last two seasons and was called on to start 10 times, averaging about 14 minutes a night. He wasn't the kind of player to fill up the stat sheet, but was clinically efficient when called upon, shooting 48.1% from the floor and grabbing 7.8 rebounds per 40 minutes. He earned honorable mention All-Region honors his senior year.

Garrett developed a reputation as a driven role player, one who would tough out the difficult effort plays against other forwards several inches taller than him. His consistent play and willingness to contribute in whatever way he was asked made him a critical role player for a team that qualified for two straight national tournaments.

What did you learn from your time at GLCC?

I learned about what it is like to be a part of a family here at GLCC. Not once did I feel like an outsider, I was accepted for who I was and I also learned to accept others for who they are as well.

What's your favorite GLCC athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory would be 18-19 Nationals. Even though we lost, the experience was unreal and amazing. I loved EVERY second of it.

What is a highlight of what you accomplished at GLCC?

Just being able to be apart of the change in the culture of GLCC basketball. It makes me feel good that I helped start the chain reaction for later Crusaders.

What's next on your journey?

Finishing out college and going wherever God leads me to do.
