MBB Defense Shut the Tigers Down

MBB Defense Shut the Tigers Down

LANSING, Mich- The Great Lakes Christian College Crusaders took on a familiar foe in Grace Christian University Wednesday evening. The Crusaders came out firing on all cylinders swarming the Tigers with suffocating pressure. GLCC offense was also clicking as the Crusaders would dish out 12 assists on 19 field goals in the first half. It seemed as if any defense the Tigers would throw at the Crusaders, GLCC would have an answer. GLCC would go into the half up 49-25, holding the Tigers to just 28 percent shooting.

In the second half it would not be so easy for the Crusaders. The Tigers adjustments out of the half slowed the GLCC offense down to almost a halt as Grace would start the half on an 11-3 run to cut the Crusader lead to 16. The Tigers would stay close and would make another push cutting the Crusader lead to just 10 with six minutes to go. Isiah Reed hit two big threes in a short spurt to push the lead out again and GLCC would end the game winning 79-55. The 24 point win is the largest margin of victory for the Crusaders over Grace. Isiah Reed finished the game with a team high 17 points 8 rebounds and 5 assists.

Inside the Box Score:

  • Crusaders would turn it over just 8 times compared to the Tigers 22 turnovers
  • GLCC would hold the Tigers to just 33 percent from the floor
  • GLCC would go 12/23 from three compared to the Tigers 2/16
  • The Tigers would outrebound the Crusaders 44-39

What Coach Says:

"Tonight I was really please with our defensive effort. Grace and us are always very familiar with each other. Coach Bailey is one of the best in the business, so it is always a chess match. I thought our guys energy and focus defensively particularly in the first half was as good as I have seen us defensively in my time here. I thought late when Grace made their run our defense was what pushed the lead back out. We certainly have some things to clean up offensively but when we share the ball we are really hard to guard."

What's Next:

MBB will travel to Kentucky to take on CU Harrodsburg and Boyce on Friday/Saturday back to back.
