MBB Wins on Senior Day

LANSING, Mich- Men's Basketball welcomed Lincoln Christian to the Doty Center for the final regular season game for the Crusaders. The last time the Crusaders played the Red Lions GLCC came out on top 112-82. The second game first half proved to be very back and forth as the Crusaders would control the play early but Lincoln never gave in. Lincoln took a narrow one point lead with 10 minutes remaining in the first half when Crusaders kicked into gear and responded with a 9-3 run. Lincoln did not go away though as they kept it to one possession the entire half as GLCC went into the half up 41-37 after a buzzer beater by Isiah Reed.

In the second half Trent Temple got the offense going early scoring multiple acrobatic finishes as the rim to push the Crusader lead to 10 and GLCC never looked back. GLCC defense was much improved in the second half holding Lincoln to just 29 percent from the floor and 15 percent from three in the second half. The Crusaders used their defense to turn into transition opportunities. Trent Temple led all scorers with 25 points to go along with 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Evan Anderson had a strong game with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Isiah Reed had a near triple double with 12 points 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Before the game Coach Westerlund honored his four seniors Jahmal Eggleston, Evan Anderson, Trent Temple and Isiah Reed. The win today secures the Crusaders third straight winning season and third most wins in a season in program history.

Inside the Box Score:

  • The Red Lions and Crusaders were even on the glass 37-37
  • Crusaders dished out 23 assists on just 7 turnovers
  • GLCC shot a season low 3/20 from three
  • Crusaders forced 17 turnovers on 12 steals.

What Coach Says:

"Very proud of our guys effort today particularly defensively in the second half. We have worked a lot this past week on sharpening up our rotations and I thought our guys really locked in defensively in the second half." On the seniors, "This group of seniors Ev, Mal, Zay, and Trent have done so much for our program. There is no one who has one more games than this group. They have sacrificed so much and worked so hard to see this program become a winner. I could not be more thankful for them buying into this program and wanting to be a part of something special. I am excited to see these guys next chapter of their lives. I know they will be successful in anything they choose to pursue." On regionals "This is what we have been working for all year. It's a one game season now. We have to focus on playing our best basketball. I believe this group is really special."
