Men's Soccer pulls off extra time thriller over CU Harrodsburg

LANSING, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College men's soccer began its regional schedule with a victory on Saturday, holding off the visitors from Campbellsville University Harrodsburg 2-1 in extra time.

GLCC dictated the play in the first half, taking 15 shots in the first 45 minutes including Gavin Talley's goal off a rebound to put them up 1-0 in the 11th minute.

In the second half, Harrodsburg began to put pressure on and it paid off with a hand ball in the box that led to a Brandon Ballard penalty to tie the score in the 55th minute. Both teams had opportunities in the second half to pull ahead, but despite a shot off the bar for Harrodsburg and a pair of corner kicks for Great Lakes, the teams finished 90 minutes all square.

The officials and coaches agreed to continue into extra time, playing two five-minute golden goal periods.

Kenan Kennedy, who had come close all day to tallying his first goal for GLCC, answered the call in the 93rd, finishing to the far post off a pass from Zach Johnson to win the game, 2-1.

GLCC took 23 total shots to Harrodsburg's 15, with 14 on target to CUH's six. Jessy Castillo made 12 saves for Harrodsburg while Jaden Talley made five for Great Lakes.

Four Great Lakes players, Jacob Leazenby, Thomas Mason, Gavin Ewalt and Zach Johnson, received yellow cards throughout the game.

GLCC will face Lincoln Christian next at 2:30 on Saturday at Henderson Field.
