Great Lakes Christian College Sweeps Wisconsin Trip with Dominant Wins Over Maranatha Baptist and Mount Mary University

Game 1: Great Lakes Christian College 79 – 41 Maranatha Baptist (NCCAA)


Great Lakes Christian College kicked off their Wisconsin trip with an impressive 79-41 victory over Maranatha Baptist. Devan Buda led the charge, finishing with 25 points, 9 steals, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists, while MaKensie Mondy added 14 points, 8 steals, and 5 rebounds. The team’s defense was suffocating, forcing 36 turnovers and turning them into 25 points, while holding Maranatha to just 36.6% shooting from the field and 0% from beyond the arc.

MyKenzie Kent contributed 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks, while Leah Yanko chipped in 9 points, 4 assists, and 8 boards. In the second half, the team continued to push, outscoring Maranatha 23-10 in the third quarter. Jamira Shumpert and O’licia Porritt combined for 16 points.

 


Game 2: Great Lakes Christian College 72 – 63 Mount Mary University (NCAA D3)


The second game of the Wisconsin trip was a tighter contest, but GLCC showed resilience and came from behind to secure a 59-56 win over NCAA Division III Mount Mary University. It was a hard-fought battle, with both teams exchanging leads throughout the game. The GLCC offense was spread out, with several players stepping up to make key contributions.

Jamira Shumpert (12 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists) and Devan Buda (12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 3 assists) led the way for the offense, while Leah Yanko posted a double-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists. MaKensie Mondy had another solid game, scoring 9 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, adding 1 steal and 1 assist. O’licia Porritt added 9 points and 5 rebounds, and 1 assist. 

The game remained tight through three quarters, with Mount Mary challenging the lead every step of the way. However, GLCC's ability to rebound and defend down the stretch proved to be the difference. MyKenzie Kent was a standout on the boards, pulling down 16 rebounds while also blocking 2 shots, adding 6 points and 2 assists. The team’s defense in the final minutes, combined with clutch free-throw shooting, helped them seal the victory.

Great Lakes Christian College heads back home with a perfect 2-0 record on their Wisconsin trip. With a record of 8-7, Great Lakes is looking strong as they match up against Kuyper College on Tuesday at 5pm at the Doty Center.
