January 28, 2025 – Great Lakes Christian College made a statement at the Doty Center, defeating the 10th-ranked Kuyper College in a gritty 59-51 win.
Makensie Mondy’s 21 points not only led all scorers, but also pushed her over the 1,000 career points mark, finishing the game with 1,004. She added 9 rebounds and 2 assists to her stat line. She contributed crucial free-throws at the end of the game as well.
Leah Yanko also played a pivotal role in the victory, finishing with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 steal. Yanko most notably went 8-8 at the free-throw line.
Mykenzie Kent was a dominant force in the paint, posting a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Her presence on the boards, especially on the offensive glass, was critical in keeping possessions alive for Great Lakes Christian. Kent also contributed 1 steals and 2 assists.
Off the bench, Marin Abe made game changing contributions. She scored 2 points and grabbed 2 rebounds, but it was her energy and timely plays that sparked the Crusaders.
The Crusader's defense was strong, forcing 18 turnovers and converting those into 20 points. Their free-throw shooting was another key factor, as they finished 19-26 (73.1%) from the line, outpacing Kuyper in that department.
Great Lakes Christian College looks to build momentum as they head to Welch College later this week.
