Great Lakes Christian College Women’s Basketball: Balanced Effort Leads Crusaders to 106-43 Victory on Senior Night

Great Lakes Christian College’s Women’s Basketball team delivered a dominant 106-43 win over Appalachian Bible on February 7th. The Crusaders were led by a career-high performance from Leah Yanko, but the victory was truly a team effort with contributions from every player dressed on Senior Night.

Leah Yanko was the standout of the night, pouring in a career-high 40 points on 17-29 shooting, including 5-13 from beyond the arc. She also dished out 10 assists and grabbed 6 rebounds, while adding two steals. 

Devan Buda was also a standout performer, contributing 16 points, 8 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. MaKensie Mondy was another key contributor, adding 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists in just 22 minutes of play.

Marin Abe continued to shine with a perfect 5-5 shooting performance, adding 10 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Her efficiency and ability to make plays for others were crucial in the team’s offensive success. Anastasia Douglas was a key presence in the paint, grabbing 11 rebounds, scoring 8 points, adding 4 assists and 2 steals. 

Marionna Dixon added 7 points and 3 rebounds, and Jamira Shumpert contributed 8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. O’licia Porritt hit a three-pointer, while Allie Ferrall added 2 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal. The bench contributed a total of 20 points, showcasing the team’s depth and versatility.

As a team, Great Lakes shot 53.4% from the field, while dishing out an impressive 37 assists. The Crusaders' defense was stifling, forcing 35 turnovers and scoring 48 points off those turnovers.

The Crusaders will look to continue building on this momentum as they head into the next couple of weeks.
