Women's Soccer Loses Home Opener to Maranatha

LANSING, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College women's soccer still seeks its first win after a 5-1 loss to regional foe Maranatha Baptist in their first home game.

Alexis Sponable got the scoring underway quickly for the visitors, putting two in the back of the net to give MBU a 2-0 lead by the 11th minute.

Amy Montgomery added one shortly before halftime, then made it two in the 65th minute to put MBU ahead 4-0.

Kseniya Hassenplug scored one more for Maranatha in the 76th before April Gillespie scored a consolation goal for Great Lakes in the 88th, her second of the season, to make the final score 5-1.

Maranatha took 29 shots, forcing 13 saves from GLCC goalkeeper Breanna Vert. Great Lakes took 16 shots as a team, putting seven on target.

Great Lakes will face Grace Christian University on Wednesday at 4:00 in Wyoming, Mich.
