Women's Soccer plays to tense draw with Grace Christian

LANSING, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College women's soccer played rival Grace Christian University to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

The first half so plenty of action, but no goals as the teams combined for 12 shots. In the 75th minute, Great Lakes broke the deadlock with what seemed the winner as Randi Fitzgerald picked up a ball in the box and beat the keeper one-on-one to put GLCC ahead.

In the 87th, however, a whistle in the box gave Grace a chance to equalize with the penalty, which Haley Pilka stuffed in the bottom corner to send the match to extra time.

Neither side was able to generate many chances in the extra 20 minutes, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Great Lakes outshot Grace 15-10, with six shots on frame. Katarzyna "Kash" Polek made a pair of saves for Great Lakes and had a clean sheet going before the penalty.

Great Lakes will get some time off before heading out to take on Maranatha Baptist on Saturday, the 31st to close the regular season.
