Women's Volleyball winless in pair of home doubleheaders

LANSING, Mich. - Great Lakes Christian College women's volleyball is still looking for a win after a four-game home stretch this weekend against Appalachian Bible College and Dayspring Bible College.

On Friday night, Great Lakes faced Applachian Bible in a pair of games. Despite a close second set, ABC won game one in straight sets, 25-12, 26-14, 25-15. In game two, the first three sets were all closely contested, GLCC winning the second set, but Appalachian cruised in set four to win 3-1 (25-22, 24-26, 25-20, 25-13).

Emma Hokanson led Great Lakes with 19 points over the two games, Sophie Lindsay contributed 37 assists. Grace Miller led ABC with 29 points on the night. Courtney Green scored 25 and Shaley Wertz racked up 47 assists.

On Saturday, GLCC hosted Dayspring Bible. Dayspring won the first set of game one, 25-18, but Great Lakes gutted out a tough win in set two, 27-25, to tie the score. GLCC took a 5-0 lead in the third set but could not hold on to it, losing 28-26, and Dayspring closed out the fourth set, 25-21, to win 3-1.

The second game followed a similar pattern: the teams split the first two sets (25-22, 20-25) and fought a long third set which Dayspring pulled out, 26-24. Great Lakes couldn't keep up in set four and Dayspring cruised to a 25-13 win to seal the match.

Four different players scored at least 10 points for Great Lakes in the first game. Stella Dunham led the team with 24 points over both games and Lindsey had 56 assists and 12 aces. Anne Finze led Dayspring with 31.5 points on the day and Sydney Duncan led with 56 assists and nine aces.

GLCC will return to action on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. at Moody Bible in Chicago.
